The UPTC is an autonomous University of a national and public character, with primary site in Tunja and regional sites in Duitama, Sogamoso y Chiquinquirá.  In turn, there are programs in Yopal, Garagoa, Puerto Boyacá y Soatá.

In Tunja, the Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia has the Schools of Education, Agricultural Sciences, Engineering, Economics, Administration and Accounting, Elementary Education, Law and Social Sciences, Health Sciences, and Distance Learning.  At the same time, these eight Schools are composed of 52 undergraduate programs and 23 graduate programs with a total enrollment of approximately 23,000 students.

Based on its foundation in teaching, science and technology, the UPTC forms professionals that contribute effectively to be economic, political, social and cultural development of Colombia.
